Destructive test. I was informed that this test is conducted every year for new students. The breaking noise is so loud that anyone not used to it thinks it was a bomb exploding.
Another destructive test. I believe this is a full scale test. The benefit of having such a huge lab to conduct real-life testing.
I am working with Prof Sause on unbonded post-tensioned precast concrete walls for seismic resistance. Notice at the middle of this interview he mentioned about this project - "self-centering walls - meaning that the structures will be restored to its initial condition no matter how hard is the earthquake." Already this concept has been taken by the industries. Lehigh Univ is working closely with the industry on this. At the end of the day, the design will be implemented in buildings and code will be established for the engineer's usage.
