METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has penned the following open letter to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW):

"Dear Ronnie,

"I just got off stage in Zagreb. I was met with the news that you've passed on. I'm kind of in shock, but I wanted you to know that you were one of the main reasons I made it onto that stage to begin with.

"When I first saw you in ELF, opening for DEEP PURPLE in 1975, I was completely blown away by the power in your voice, your presence on stage, your confidence, and the ease with which you seemed to connect to 6,000 Danish people and one starry-eyed 11-year-old, most of whom were not familiar with ELF's music. The following year, I was so psyched when I heard the results of you joining forces with my favorite guitar player. You guys sounded so right for each other and I instantly became RAINBOW's #1 fan in Denmark.

"In the fall of 1976, when you played your first show in Copenhagen, I was literally in the front row and the couple of times we made eye contact you made me feel like the most important person in the world. The news that you guys were staying in town on your day off somehow embedded itself in my brain and I made the pilgrimage to the Plaza Hotel to see if I could somehow grab a picture, an autograph, a moment, anything. A few hours later you came out and were so kind and caring... pictures, autographs and a couple minutes of casual banter. I was on top of the world, inspired and ready for anything. RAINBOW came to Copenhagen a couple more times over the next few years and each time you guys blew my mind, and for a good three years were my absolute favorite band on this planet.

"Over the years I've been fortunate enough to run into you a half dozen times or so and each time you were as kind, caring and gracious as you were in 1976 outside the hotel.

"When we finally got a chance to play together in Austria in 2007, even though I may not have let on, I was literally transformed back to that little snot-nosed kid who you met and inspired 31 years earlier and it was such a fucking honor and a dream come true to share a stage with you and the rest of the legends in HEAVEN & HELL.

"A couple of weeks ago when I heard that you were not going to be able to make it to the Sonisphere shows that we would be sharing this June, I wanted to call you and let you know that I was thinking of you and wish you well, but I kind of pussied out, thinking the last thing you needed in your recovery was feeling obligated to take a phone call from a Danish drummer/fan boy. I wish I'd made that call.

"We will miss you immensely on the dates, and we will be thinking of you with great admiration and affection during that run. It seemed so right to have you out on tour with the so-called 'Big Four' since you obviously were one of the main reasons that the four bands even exist.

"Your ears will definitely be burning during those two weeks because all of us will be talking, reminiscing and sharing stories about how knowing you has made our lives that much better.

"Ronnie, your voice impacted and empowered me, your music inspired and influenced me, and your kindness touched and moved me. Thank you.

"Much love."

Legendary Heavy Metal Vocalist RONNIE JAMES DIO Dies

Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.

"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.

"We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.

"Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.

"Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

It was only a month ago that Dio, 67, spoke about his battle with cancer with the Artisan News Service on the "black carpet" of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which took place on April 8 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. When asked about how he had been feeling since he was diagnosed with the disease late last year, Dio said, "Well, I feel good and bad at times. It's a long process. Chemotherapy is a... I never realized what a difficult thing it was to go through. It's a real cumulative effect — the more you have, the more it piles up on top and it takes longer and longer to get over it. I find it very difficult to eat. I don't like to eat anyway, so I guess that's OK. But I know I have to. But this makes it very, very hard. But if you're determined to beat it, then you have to go with what you believe is going to beat it for you, and in this case it's that. I go to a great hospital in Houston called M.D. Anderson, which I think is the best hospital in the world, I have the best doctor in the world, Dr. Ajani, who I really trust and I really believe in, so I think I've done all the right things. It makes me feel positive about my life and positive that there is a lot more of it to live."

Earlier this month, HEAVEN & HELL canceled its summer tour plans in Europe due to Dio's treatment for stomach cancer. The band said in a statement that Dio wasn't "well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their continuing support at this time."

Born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Ronnie James Dio had performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects included the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He was most recently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also included former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first and only studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.

In April, Dio appeared at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles to accept the award for "Best Vocalist." As members of ALICE IN CHAINS presented the award to him, the crowd chanted, "Dio! Dio! Dio! Dio!"

METALLICA: New Album Title Revealed!

Anak yang bongsu, semoga Allah memberkati dia, meragam disebabkan tak sihat badan. Tidak mahu diletak, sentiasa mahu didakap. Pengalaman kami, dia la yang paling manja.

Cuaca hari ni lebih baik dari semalam. Matahari gah menyinarkan sinarnya. Boleh la pakaian yang disidai kering. Untuk keluarga besar macam kami, we do laundry everyday, out from a 7kg front loader washer machine. Kalau tak kering hari ni, esok dah kena tambah load baru. Bertambah day by day. Sinar mentari adalah rahmat bagi kami.

Sebut pasal LOAD, ada maksud lain berkaitan dengan LOAD. Album METALLICA yang aku gelarkan sebagai country Metal. Itulah LOAD dan kembarnya RELOAD. Ramai yang keciwa dengan album-album ini. Malah lebih ramai yang keciwa apabila rilisnya album St. Anger. Pendapat aku? Aku tak ambil peduli. Ketika itu, banyak lagi band dan album yang boleh aku beri perhatian. Metallica? I don't care.

Tetapi minatku kembali setelah menonton DVD mereka, Some Kind Of Monster. Then aku sedar, mereka juga manusia biasa. Yang terkesan dengan populariti, ego dan punya perasaan. I realize then, when you are at the top, the pressure is overwhelming. To prove. Apatah lagi the last few albums, mereka telah dikritik hebat.

Bacaanku dalam Classic Rock, yang menyelitkan temuramah Mick Wall bersama Lars Ulrich, ketika pembikinan album "The Black Album" bersama produser mega, Bob Rock juga menunjukkan konflik dalaman Lars, yang ketika itu sudah mula dihujani dengan dollar dan populariti disanjung manusia. Mick menulis; "Lars sudah berubah. Dulu apabila datang ke tempatku, dia akan singgah ke apartmenku. Sekarang dia datang (ke UK) untuk membeli lukisan-lukisan mahal untuk disimpan menjadi koleksi." Obviously, tambah Mick, Lars sekarang (Februari 1991) bukanlah Lars yang dikenali sebelumnya.

Now, a new album is in the making. Dan pagi tadi, melayari internet; kebetulan RSS feed di blog Krenmaut ada berita terbaru blabbermouth.net,dan beritanya Metallica telah announce tajuk album mereka yang terbaru.

Hmmm... agak catchy. Macam album seminal mereka Kill 'Em All dan Master Of Puppets. Catchy juga seperti tajuk St. Anger. Persoalannya bukan tajuk yang catchy (walaupun ia membantu), tetapi yang lebih penting, contentnya.

Kepada mereka yang telah mengekori berita tentang album terbaru Metallica, pasti ingat yang mereka telah membuat sesi pradengar kepada wakil media rock/Metal antarabangsa; beberapa lagu yang belum diproses. Wakil-wakil media telah membuat ulasan. Majoritinya kata ianya lebih baik dari St Anger, tetapi unfortunately, nothing too exciting. Aku dah membacanya. Curiosity sekarang bertukar menjadi prejudice apabila management Metallica sekarang mengarahkan supaya semua ulasan tersebut ditarik balik dari disiarkan di internet dan media cetak.

I am sure, di mana-mana, perkhabaran album baru Metallica yang dijadualkan akan dirilis pada September ini, menjadi sebutan mat-mat Metal kental. XPDC pun boleh jadi, ternanti-nanti. Forum Metal tempatan, Metal to Metals juga hangat membicarakannya (walaupun banyak tersasar kepada isu-isu yang remeh).

Aku excited juga. Pada aku, Metallica bukan sekadar band yang seminal tetapi manusia di belakangnya, mewarnai apa yang dihasilkan. Buat masa ini ada isu yang lebih penting, yang memerlukan 100% perhatianku. Diapers anakku telah habis, kaput! Kena bersiap sekarang untuk membelinya!

BRUCE DICKINSON's Chemical Wedding THE MOVIE!!!

Bruce Dickinson, multi-talented artist telah pun siap dengan sebuah full-length film bertajuk Chemical Wedding mengambil sempena album solo beliau. Dahsyat mamat ni!

Dah la bawak kapalterbang komersil, ada double Master degrees, pemain pedang taraf antarabangsa (among others)... sekarang jadi pengarah filem pulak.

IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's upcoming supernatural horror-thriller, "Chemical Wedding", will be released in British cinemas on May 23.

"Chemical Wedding" will premiere at the London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film at the Apollo West End Cinema in London on May 4. The film will also be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17.

Dickinson, a trained pilot, is due to fly invited guests to Cannes on the band's own Boeing 757 jet for the premiere.

"Chemical Wedding" wrapped principal photography in September with Julian Doyle at the helm. The film stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Crowley, once dubbed "the most evil man in Britain." Callow's character, Haddo, is a shy, stuttering professor.

"My experience with stages is obviously IRON MAIDEN and that sort of stuff," Bruce said. "I've directed a few videos over the course of my rock 'n' roll past and I enjoyed them, I enjoyed directing videos. Writing movies a completely different thing. I wrote a couple of absurd comic novels — that came out as well, and you know, they did OK actually. So, writing is something that's always sort of interested me, so this seemed like a good opportunity to learn the process, really."

p/s: dalam kepala otak aku pikirkan dia patut direct filem komedi, in the veins of Spinal Tap. Maklumlah, pengalaman dia dalam IRON MAIDEN surely dapat apply kat movie, especially part-part kelakar tu. Badut pun ada dalam band (Nicko) hehehe...

Tom G Warrior quits CELTIC FROST!

Seperti yang telah dikhabarkan oleh blabbermouth.net, Tom Gabriel Fischer, telah mengundur diri dari band lagenda, CELTIC FROST. Dalam komennya, Tom mengatakan bahawa CELTIC FROST adalah terdiri dari 3 individu! Huhuhu... aku ingatkan Tom = CELTIC FROST? Kalau Tom dah takde dalam CELTIC FROST apa ke halnya pulak? Bukan patut CELTIC FROST dibubarkan ke apa?

Akhir kata Tom, "There is no way back!" menggambarkan nasi sudah menjadi bubur. Terlajak perahu boleh diundur, terlajak kata... aaa, paham-paham la.

Fortunately, Tom kata dia tengah pikir options camana nak rilis lagu yang telah dia bikin untuk album CELTIC FROST yang tak menjadi (lanjutan Monotheist iaitu Monotheist Companion).

p/s: jangan jadi glam balik udah le Tom oi... anyway, sebelum ni pun Tom dah bagitau yang hubungan antara individu dalam CELTIC FROST ni pun memang fragile. Nampak memang fragile... sempat satu album je lepas reunion, at least yang mana Tom ada sekali.

Aku baru dapat berita dari Noa yang memberitahu bahawa beliau bersama dengan Hery dan Yus telah menarik diri dari SYJ08 akibat masalah dalaman. Jadi tinggal vokalis, Alang je dalam SYJ08.

Nampak gaya, line up ni tak sempat nak rakam album baru untuk SYJ08.

Namun begitu diberitakan bahawa SYJ08 akan tetap meneruskan persembahan Tribute to Rock Kangkang pada 4 May ini akan tetap diteruskan. Dengan line-up baru.

Aku pun tak tau apa nak jadi pada blog ini sepanjang aku di Malaysia.

Tapi aku plan untuk update sesi rakaman tu in daily basis. Masalahnya, nak mencari koneksyen internet yang sesuai. Dan of course masa. Ikut planning, rekoding 10 jam tiap-tiap hari. Penat tu.

Gitaris MEGADETH terbaru!

Aduh... macamana aku boleh miss berita besar camnih? Aduh duh duh... Maybe concentrate sangat dengan IRON MAIDEN, terabai cerita Abang Mus kita nih...

Anyway, ura-ura yang Glen Drover sudah quit MEGADETH sudah bermain-main di forum rasmi MEGADETH tetapi Abang Mus tidak buat statement apa-apa. Of course, mana nak dapat rumours macam ni kalau tak dari blabbermouth.net.

Aku pun dok suspen gak. Sape nak ganti Glen. At the same time, aku rasa lega sebab Glen ni rasa macam tak berapa masuk sikit. Masa tengok perform dia kat sini, rasa macam missing something. Yang aku dapat sense ialah gitar bentuk Ibanez dia tu tak matching macam Abang Mus yang pakai DEAN Flying V. But in no way aku nak komen Glen punya playability, walaupun tak seterer Marty Friedman maupun Al Pitrelli tapi dia masih pemain yang hebat. Tone dia aku salute!

So sekarang pengganti pun dah jumpa dan dia bernama CHRIS BRODERICK (NEVERMORE, JAG PANZER). Hmm... nama ni tak berapa familiar walaupun band yang dia main tu familiar. Bila selidik dia punya capability memang impressive... selain Metal, boleh main Jazz lepas tu kalau korang search kat youtube tengok dia demo, memang dasat la. I BET YOU CAN'T PLAY LIKE HIM! hahahaha...

So it's official, Encik Broderick is now with MEGADETH dan kita cuma perlu tunggu dan lihat. Chris sendiri menerimanya dengan baik lantas meninggalkan terus NEVERMORE dan JAG PANZER. Dan nak tengok camana Chris in MEGADETH pun tak lama lagi. Pada Feb 4 MEGADETH akan introduce Chris pada crowd di Finland dan dari situ kita jadi hakimnya yeaaahhhh!!!

Hi folks:

I was very pleased to hear on Thursday that Iron Maiden will be visiting Australia in February as part of their Somewhere Back In Time tour, but the lack of an Adelaide show does not impress me one bit.

Iron Maiden haven't played in Adelaide since May 4th, 1985 (check the list of tour dates in your Live After Death CD booklet), and I think we've earned a show of our own after waiting more than 22 years. We missed out in '92 and I don't want that to happen again. If Black Sabbath managed to sell out their recent Thebarton Theatre show in two days with zero promotion or publicity, there's no reason why a group with Maiden's reputation can't do the same or better.

I have emailed the promoter (Paul Dainty) with my concerns and hoped you might be able to help organise a petition or some sort of pressure campaign to remind the band how much Adelaide fans want and deserve to see them. Thanks in advance for your support, keep up the good work and up the Irons!

WORLD TOUR 08 ANNOUNCEMENT - EDDIE GETS HIGH AND GOES GLOBAL

IRON MAIDEN announce their most ambitious and extraordinary touring plans ever -- and are very pleased to announce that this will include Australia for the first time in 15 years!

The 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME' World Tour 2008 will be in three sections, starting in February and March 2008 with the first leg encompassing major concerts in 20 selected cities on five continents in seven weeks including India, Japan, North America, Central and South America, and, of course, Australia, opening in Perth on Feb 4 and continuing through Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane:

SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME, AUSTRALIA 2008

February :-
Monday 4th, Burswood Dome, Perth
Wednesday 6th, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Saturday 9th, Acer Arena, Sydney
Tuesday 12th, Entertainment Centre, Brisbane

The tour then continues with more concerts in North America in late May and June before finishing with a third leg in July and August encompassing major stadiums and festivals all over Europe. During the tour the band is expected to play to well over one and a half million fans and travel close to 100,000 miles.

In an historic first, Iron Maiden, their 60-strong crew and support staff and over 12 tons of equipment will be travelling around the world en masse for the first leg of the tour in a specially commissioned and converted Astraeus Boeing 757 decorated with Maiden and Eddie designs! Vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is a qualified Airline Captain flying for Astraeus Airlines, will pilot the plane on its epic mission, flying over 50,000 miles.

Comments Bruce Dickinson, "We had the idea last year of converting a jumbo jet into effectively what would be a flying 113 ton 'splitter bus' for touring and we have been working seriously on it ever since. It's pretty complex but in the end we were able, with a lot of help from Astraeus Airlines, to overcome all the technicalities of customising the plane for our purposes. We are taking out the back 10 rows of seats to fit in a customised cargo hold that we can use again in the future if this jaunt works. This is in addition to all the standard storage holds. By taking band, personnel and equipment in one form of transport it makes all the touring so much easier and overcomes the logistical difficulty of people and equipment going in different planes. We can even work out exactly how big our carbon footprint is and take care of that responsibility! We will be packing as much of the show into the plane as we possibly can for this first leg and intend to give the fans something very special to remember. And it allows me to combine 2 of my greatest passions, music and flying!!

To tie in with forthcoming 2008 releases on DVD of the classic 'LIVE AFTER DEATH' and 'MAIDEN ENGLAND' concert videos (more details coming soon) this tour, aptly entitled 'SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME', will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on the 80's in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 'Powerslave Tour'. This will arguably be the most elaborate and spectacular show the band have ever presented, and will include some key elements of their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986/7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.

Steve Harris comments; "On the last tour we opened the show by playing our new album 'A Matter of Life and Death' in its 80 minute entirety. We thought we needed the challenge and it proved the right thing to do. However, it can be hard on the fans playing so much new material and we really appreciated the superb support they gave us. So now l guess it's payback time. It's tremendous to be able to use the profile of the DVDs to do what is effectively an 80's show. It will be enormous fun and by changing the approach to the songs we play tour by tour it keeps it fresh and interesting for both the band and the fans alike. l think 'Powerslave' was an incredible show with the Egyptian theme and look forward to seeing it all again myself. We have been planning this for a few years and hoping to take it to Australia -- so we are all delighted that it has now worked out. I would also like to say that we are all are very grateful to our loyal fans in Oz who have kept the Maiden flag flying all these years and we are sorry to have disappointed you for so long. Thanks and see you there"

Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden's Manager, further commented; "Following Bruce's various hints from on stage this last year about our plans for 2008 ("We are taking some time off to build some pyramids!"), fans have been pestering me for details of the tour and especially asking which songs from that era will be played. That may be as easy as a run in the hills but we will keep our aces close to our chest on this issue. I know it would only take a couple of minutes but at this stage of planning, I'd have to be clairvoyant to know what they will do. I'm sure though it will be no revelation for you that we intend to make up for those wasted years by visiting a large number of hallowed metal venues around the world. Historically 'Powerslave' was an incredibly important album for the band and it would be madness if we didn't give the fans a taste of the full on Iron Maiden show from that time. With our jumbo there really is no rime nor reason why the band cannot now visit fans almost everywhere as many have been real troopers to have waited this long. Heaven only knows what the band will choose but if l could and did tell you now l would have to shoot you! You'll all have to be patient and see. But it will be spectacular. No fear!!"

Historically, this will be Maiden's fourth Australian Tour having first toured in 1982 when 'The Number of the Beast' was Australia's number one album, then again in 1985 with the original 'Powerslave' show and most recently in 1992 with 'Fear of the Dark'. However a great deal has happened with the band since then, especially in recent years when ticket sales have continued to explode around the world as the band's loyal fan base continues to flourish. As Maiden have never had airplay or much video channel exposure anywhere in the world their popularity spread mainly by word of mouth on the back of a legacy of many great albums and an awesome live reputation With the ever increasing power of the internet the Maiden legend has fired the imagination of new young fans around the planet, and, although their audience spans two generations, it is now predominantly a young one, inspired by the massive legacy and influence of this unique band (and, of course, Eddie).

To allow Iron Maiden fans in Australia to get right up close to the band,the fan club are organising advance booking of tickets for members and running a special draw for them whereby 60 winners and friend at each show will be given first access to the venue and be first to the stage barrier. Tickets go on sale to the public 9am Thursday 27th September, but members of the Iron Maiden fan club get exclusive first access to purchase tickets from 12 noon Thursday 20th September through to 12 noon Monday 24th September. More details soon!
