Review: MORBID ANGEL Illud Divinum Insanus

Just knowing that Morbid Angel is recording a new album is already exciting. Imagine when the album is already out for grab?

I am aware that many of the fans are disappointed citing that this album is too much of a Rob Zombie/Marilyn Manson's cheap imitation. Guess what? I've never listened to them. The one that may click right now is probably Manson's cover, Sweet Dreams of Eurythmics. So part of appreciating this new album is by not listening to them.

So what is the problem? They injected a little bit of electronica and drum machine? That they no longer produce something like Covenant? To me, rather than trying to fix the failure of the last album (Heretic) by becoming faster or brutal, it is better to have something which, well, unexpected like this.

To be fair, the electronica in Radikult is too much, I agree but other track are pretty good. 10 More Dead is a cool track reminiscing us to the melodic and groovy Blessed Are The Sick. Too Extreme! if you can see behind the sarcasm, IS extreme. Whence the fans were expecting, the unexpected is delivered. Trey and David are probably grinning right now. This is Morbid Angel not other craps with the fastest kicks and the heaviest low tunes, bro. Once the comfort zone is reached, we must conquer others. Can't you see what a genius Trey is at with his rhythm and melodies? Check out also the track Mea Culpa which dropped my jaw to the floor. I am talking about Trey's riffs.

Morbid Angel is breathing again after the tired Gateways and Heretic. This is essentially what David had left during Domination and he's continuing it with the guidance of Trey. The future of Death Metal just look so promising right now.
