Review: CLARE MAGUIRE Light After Dark

I am glad to hear woman's singing which is not cheesy, preteen-sounding and annoying. Nowadays, this kind of singing is everywhere. Well, actually, it cannot be help since these singers are in their preteen age anyways. What bothers me the most, even some of them are in their mid 20s, yet they sounded so preteen you would have guess that they never finished their school. Clare Maguire is a breath of fresh air. Not to say that she's original but considering her voice which has some resemblance to Annie Lennox, I would say it is refreshing. The voice is mature with some deep breathing technique used when phrasing the lyrics. However, the music is so-so. Lacking of the catchy chorus needed in this kind of environment in order to strive on the charts. The instruments played sounded cheap sounded like they are almost fully programmed and not played live by real musicians. I would blame this to the producer. Perhaps a change of the production team is what she really needs.
