Review: PAUL SIMON So Beautiful or So What CD

Most of us heard of Simon & Garfunkel, but never get to listen to this duo-folk outfit properly. Same here. Paul Simon as you guess it, was one of the duo and they came from a long history since the 1960s. I am pretty sure that Simon & Garfunkel is already a history but last year they manage to be together again in a one-off gig somewhere in New Orleans.

As a solo artist, this is the 12th album in his belt. Knowing absolutely nothing about his solo work, I listened to the CD with an open mind. Sure enough, he still maintains his folk influence in his songs. The music and melodies were beautifully written, minimality in extravaganza is obvious here as he goes most with acoustic instruments. That benefited his strength, which is his voice - subdued, emotional yet soothing.

Folk in character, allows manipulation of musical backgrounds. Paul Simon uses this liberation by mingling country music as his main element with Indian traditional nuances and some Mississippi blues around it. But as you go in detail, there are no fixed influence in his play with music. Lyrically, it's Christian spiritual and values.

I was listening to The Afterlife while cooking and it manage to gets my body to swing. Just to show how I have enjoyed the CD.
